Guidelines for students and parents to face exam anxieties

Guidelines for students and parents to face exam anxieties

Know that worry and anxiety would lead you to distraction, confusion and forgetfulness. Have faith in your mental abilities the same as others, since giving in to fear, nervousness and loss of trust in self may affect negatively on your level of performance in the exam.
Make sure to feed well and have regular rest sessions during your study hours to refresh yourself and renew your energy and activity so as to continue exerting efforts enthusiastically.
Give due attention to your exam schedule and timing of each exam.
Go early to bed on the night of the exam to have a clear mind and be able to retain information and concentrate after a brief review of the subject you are to be tested in the following day.
Get up early, have breakfast as it is of utmost importance and know that lack of food affects negatively on memory and the retention of information as well as the order of ideas.
Do not go to the exam earlier than you are supposed to and neither late so as to avoid distraction, confusion and waste of time. Adhere to sitting time of the exam.
Do not discuss subject matter of the exam with your colleagues prior to the exam and not try to expect questions in the exam as this might confuse and distract your mind.
Read the question paper thoroughly more than once to make sure that you have fully comprehended them and do not make haste in writing answers as this may cause you to overlook questions you could have answered.
On reading the questions thoroughly start answering the easiest ones first and leave that you are not sure of till later baring in mind the time limit.
Do not forget to number the questions you have answered.
Do not write two answers for one question thinking that this may oblige the examiner to choose for you the right answer but be keen to write an ordered answer.
Pace your time for each and every question so that you may not get engrossed in answering one question, wasting the time determined for the rest of the questions.
Make sure that there are no questions left unanswered.
Try to use the time allotted for the exam fully and do not haste in handing over your exam paper before the time is out as this would not be to your best interest.
When the exam is over, start preparing yourself well for the next exam.
